Black Mirror S06 has a trailer, arrives in June
Enjoy the cracks in our bright and shiny future.
The first teaser for Black Mirror S06 just dropped and it looks just as beautifully creepy as all seasons. It’s out on Netflix in June.
Update 6. 6. 23: Here’s the full trailer:
Netflix hasn’t revealed how many episodes this season will contain, but SpoilerTV recently postet a list of five titles:
Episode 6.01 - Demon 79
Episode 6.02 - Mazey Day
Episode 6.03 - Beyond the Sea
Episode 6.04 - Loch Henry
Episode 6.05 - Joan is Awful
I’ve blogged extensively about Black Mirror from the very first episodes on, following Charlie Brooker since his excellent 2008 zombie-series Dead Set, and watching his biting, albeit a bit cynical end-of-year ‘wipes’. His harsh take on the future with this anthology-series, which in some moments is near unbearably dark, hit me out of nowhere and I’m a superfan ever since.
I can’t wait to find out how Brooker reflects on the latest developments in our brave new world of global pandemics, artificial intelligence and the continuing shitshow of social media. I guess we’ll all have the same awe-inspiring unconfortable moments watching this season, as with everything Black Mirror, maybe the only SciFi-thing in recent years that was able to meet and surpass my expectations on a constant high level. To me, Black Mirror is the best scifi-series we have, it’s up there with the Twilight Zone, and pretty much nothing can hold a candle to it.
The new season stars many familiar faces from popular movies and series including Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad, Kate Mara from House of Cards, or Josh Hartnett from Black Hawk Down.
Snip from the Netflix-blogpost:
“I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself,” the writer, creator and executive producer said.
So that’s exactly what he did. Not every episode of the new season will be exactly what you’re expecting — but that’s the whole point.
“Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect,” he says. “Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is. The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through — but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.” (…)
Says Brooker, “I can’t wait for people to binge their way through it all and hope they enjoy it — especially the bits they shouldn’t.”
Also, i’m looking forward to the hidden references to the inofficial theme-song, and anyone who knows what love is, will understand.
What an awesome series.
Exciting topics and ideas, inventive, surprising, makes one thinking & reflecting, and, while it felt in several episodes to be perhaps years or even centuries ahead of its time or just too ficitonal to be realised (at that time), reality catched up faster than expected.
Quite scary to recognize several "ideas" from previous Black Mirror episodes are already more or less realized or at least realizable (scary because it does not necessarily look like it will be better than in the related episodes).
Very curious about what the upcoming episodes are about.
