This Is Why Even Scientists Underestimate Climate Change: Climate science and economics are inherently conservative, and that may be a factor in Monday's highly-anticipated report from the UN-backed IPCC.

‘Apocalyptic’ scenes hit Greece as Athens besieged by fire
Researchers from Israel have developed a neural network capable of generating ‘master’ faces – facial images that are each capable of impersonating multiple IDs. The work suggests that it’s possible to generate such ‘master keys’ for more than 40% of the population using only 9 faces synthesized by the StyleGAN Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), via three leading face recognition systems. The paper is a collaboration between the Blavatnik School of Computer Science and the school of Electrical Engineering, both at Tel Aviv. Testing the system, the researchers found that a single generated face could unlock 20% of all identities in the University of Massachusetts’ Labeled Faces in the Wild (LFW) open source database, a common repository used for development and testing of facial ID systems, and the benchmark database for the Israeli system.
The floating face of capitalism
Paris Review über den schwebenden Businessfuzzi: “He’s a superhuman exclamation point. He’s the floating face of capitalism. And if literature has taught us anything, it’s that he brings nothing but bad news wherever he roams.”

Real Time Deepfake Streaming: Realtime Deepfake Tech has been shown experimentally back in 2016 where it was still called face2face, now it’s implemented in the most notorious Deepfake Software and you can switch into pretrained Faces live on air. Another step into the digital deconstruction of consent reality, where every tiny piece of reality becomes manipulatable and editable, leaving your cognition in a perpetual state of unstable, insecure and untrustworthy perception of the world.
Precisely shaped, meticulously balanced weight blocks leverage the laws of physics to help skilled alley jockeys throw a strike on most rolls. This clever engineering allows the projectiles to hook inward as they approach the end of the 60-foot lane, where the invisible oil slick on the boards thins. The spin an expert gives the globe (as fast as 600 rpm) will find purchase there as the friction increases, putting the orb right next to the headpin.
Fuck you Pythogoras! “An Australian mathematician has discovered that Babylonians may have used applied geometry roughly 1,500 years before the Greeks supposedly invented its foundations, according to a new study published in the Foundations of Science journal this month.”
Hyena Bone Cave in Saudi Arabia including human remnants: I like that gnarly mental image of hyenas dragging screaming neanderthals into their cave eating their flesh, but most likely they were just graverobbers.

Boomers at The New Yorker discover “The Brash, Exuberant Sounds of Hyperpop”
Old farts (like me) discovering the “Brash, Exuberant Sounds of Hyperpop”:
In 2014, music fans and critics began paying close attention to a mysterious group of artists who’d started releasing tracks online. They were part of PC Music, a loose electronic-music collective that functioned more like a conceptual-art project. Led by a young, inventive producer from London named A. G. Cook, PC Music, and its affiliates, rejected a dark, murky strain of underground electronic music that was beloved at the time. Instead, they latched onto the most exuberant and absurd elements of pop, making cutesy, theatrical songs that sounded a bit like children’s music, but with an unsettling aftertaste. If mainstream pop is designed to make people feel as if they’re on common ground with all of humanity, this music made listeners feel like they were in on a very specific joke. In a Pitchfork article titled “PC Music’s Twisted Electronic Pop: A User’s Manual,” one critic wrote, “The shadowy operation and its bewildering brand of hyper-pop have been everywhere in the past few months . . . and its influence seems to be growing on a daily basis.”
That term, “hyper-pop,” was such an intuitively accurate way to describe this scene that it eventually became a catchall for the many subgenres, artists, and micro-communities that the PC Music movement helped give rise to. More recently, the experimental duo 100 gecs has honed a delirious, cleverly referential sort of hyperpop. Like PC Music, they confound the corporate centers of the music industry: their songs have drawn fervent fans, but the group is too brash and novel to be easily boxed into any preëxisting musical categories. Still, playlists are the bread and butter of streaming services, and they live and die by legible taxonomies. So in 2019, to address the quandary of 100 gecs’ unlikely popularity and unwieldy style, Spotify launched a new playlist designed to give their sound a home on the platform. It was called “hyperpop.”
I’m following what you might today call “Hyperpop” since the 2015 debut of Sophie, who died much too young in january this year. Mainstream-Examples of Hyperpop are Charlie XCX and as a producer the artists behind this aesthetic are all over the place.
Hyperpop may be the first true original GenZ-aesthetic. Liberated from the nostalgic regressive impulses of vaporwave it is a playful, baroque take on digital maximalism featuring distorted pop sounds on speed.
Hyperpop-Artists are a regular in my music video postings, so here’s glaive, featured prominently in the New Yorker piece linked above. A 15 year old motherfucker with pimples doing some pretty cool newschool stuff and who just started making music during the pandemic. He just released his “All Dogs Go To Heaven”-EP (YT-Playlist) and it’s pretty good but ofcourse I dig his early stuff better.
Enjoy a good tweet of many deaths.
