Crypto-Cruiseship Seasteading FAIL
Ein weiterer Eintrag im traurigen Lebenslauf of Bullshit der libertären Crypto-Träume aus dem Internet von dämlichen Tech-Bros: The disastrous voyage of Satoshi, the world’s first cryptocurrency cruise ship.
According to Harris, Elwartowski thought he could convince the Panamanian authorities to let the ship anchor permanently in its waters and de-register as a ship, becoming a floating residence instead, so as to avoid some of the more exacting requirements of maritime law. But while Panama was happy to have the ship moored off its coast, it specified that the ship had to remain officially designated as a ship. Which led to another difficulty: the discharge of sewage. Though the ship had an advanced wastewater management system, which could turn sewage into drinking-quality water, they were not permitted to discharge this wastewater into Panamanian waters, and so would have had to sail 12 miles out every 20 days or so to empty tanks into international waters.
Such obstacles made the ship an off-putting proposition for insurers. No one would agree to cover them. “They wouldn’t even tell us why we weren’t insurable, they just kept saying no,” Romundt said. “It’s kind of hard to remedy something if you don’t know what the problem is.” Of the several insurance experts I asked about this, none were willing to comment on the case, citing a lack of expertise, presumably because no one had ever tried to insure a cruise ship turned floating crypto-community before. Harris, however, had his theories: that a risk-averse insurance industry was wary of both a bitcoin business and a ship that would presumably be mostly populated by quick-to-litigate Americans.
Come Sail Away”: “We'll search for tomorrow, on every shore and I'll try, oh Lord I'll try, to carry on”.
All of this is gorgeous.
Zauner made 32 tracks of instrumental and vocal music for the game, and you won’t have to buy the game to hear it. The soundtrack, on its own, is coming on the same day as the game. (The Japanese Breakfast song “Glider,” which is being recirculated today, dates back to 2018, when Zauner first announced plans for the soundtrack.)
Talking about the soundtrack in a press release, Zauner says:
I was so lucky Daniel Fineberg and Gregorios Kythreotis from Shedworks invited me onto this game so early on. I was immediately captivated by the world they’d built, a desert planet filled with mysterious natural and architectural wonders, and the story they’d imagined, one of a young girl coming of age through exploration. It was important to me that each biome in this world felt unique. I used woodwinds and vocal layering to make monumental ruins feel ancient and unknown, industrial samples and soft synths to make atomic ships feel cold and metallic, classical guitar and bright piano to make encampments feel cozy and familiar. I wanted the main themes to recall iconic works of Joe Hisaishi and Alan Menken, to fill the listener with the childlike wonder of someone on the precipice of a grand discovery.
Was weiß ich denn.
The multimedia Roddenberry Archive will produce everything from holographic and digital renderings of the famous Starship Enterprise vessel to TV and movie sets. The effort will be formally announced at the annual Star Trek convention Creation in Las Vegas this Friday, by the Roddenberry estate and artists Denise and Mike Okuda, Doug Drexler and Daren Dochterman.
The project will include key texts and documents from Roddenberry’s career (the show predicted tablet computers among many other gadgets, after all), as well as images, blueprints and models. The archive will span the flagship “Star Trek” series, original films, and subsequent spinoffs. The immediate benefit of the archive will be the ability to generate NFTs from the collection for Trek diehards, as well as offer the public life-sized hologram installations that promise to be “indistinguishable from reality” via Light Field Lab.
“I cannot think of a more capable and innovative company to trust with these materials. OTOY’s work will allow generations to experience my father’s contribution to humanity with the greatest historical accuracy possible. This project will protect an optimistic vision of the future, that has inspired so many and remains so important today,” said Rod Roddenberry.
OTOY is a cloud graphics company with serious Hollywood pedigree, counting board members in director J.J. Abrams, Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt and JavaScript creator Brendan Eich. The archive will be captured using RNDR, OTOY’s blockchain computing network. The company will also use LightStage, the Oscar-winning facial scanning service, to preserve original studio and physical assets.
Artist and OTOY board member Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann will also join the Roddenberry Archive as a creative consultant, along will painter and illustrator Alex Ross. The pair will help commemorate the archive and cross-link it to both the Ross and Beeple RNDR archives announced earlier this year.
Now you know.
Defining pleasant touch stimuli: a systematic review and meta-analysis
The review found that factors such as texture, velocity, force, and the duration of continuous stroking influence tactile evoked pleasantness. Specifically, using a soft material and stroking at a velocity of 3cm/s with light force is generally considered as particularly pleasant. The meta-analysis showed that a brush stroking velocity of 30 cm/s was rated as less pleasant than 3cm/s, on the forearm. The present study collates the factors that are most likely to provide a stimulus to elicit a pleasant sensation. The results should be important for [love].

Preserving Worlds
Preserving Worlds is a documentary series about aging virtual worlds. Virtual worlds are delicate things, and they can vanish with hardly a trace. You can archive the offline software, but a dead world can only tell you so much. It’s just as important to document how people spent their time within it.
Preserving Worlds is a travelogue that takes you through some of the most interesting and impactful online games and communities of the past forty years to see what it’s like to visit them today. Along the way, you’ll meet people who are working against obsolescence to keep the communities they care about alive and accessible. The series takes an ethnographic approach to capture historically important information about the player communities of online video games, as well as some offline games indelibly stamped by the creative contributions of their players.

Useless Crypto: “This token is so useless, we dedicate all revenue towards buying it back - just so we can burn it. 0 happy clients, 5 days of experience, 6 doxxed team members.” Not sure what’s the difference to bitcoins or other crypto-assets, but what do I know.

Tja. This is what you get wenn man sich mit einem gefährlichen Kult einlässt, mit 1000 teilweise bewaffneten Rechtsdrehern ins Parlament eindringt und dort einen auf Larry macht. Dumm gelaufen, Qanon-Shaman.
