Meta Meat
So, The Zuck pulled an Alphabet and made Facebook a subsidiary of the new company Meta, here’s Zuckerbergs original presentation if you’re into this kinda thing. (I prefer the supercut below.)
I couldn’t be less interested tbh and I am highly sceptical about all of this. There are interesting niches within the Metaverse-framework, such as decentralized ownership of intellectual property and the question of digital persona, but if you look at the web today, it still is extremely text-based (how many messages have you sent today?) with virtual worlds being pretty much nowhere besides gaming. However, one might underestimate future developments, as more and more unemployed young men retreat into gaming, this being the biggest entertainment market by far, topping movies and music combined and it still grew 27% last year alone. If you can pull of the merging of online gaming worlds with the social web including portable online identities, this might totally come to pass. So, I might not take this too seriously, but I’m watching this space.
And don’t forget that this is part of “a giant PR battle about the reputation of the biggest technosocial machine in history”. Maybe it’s true that “Facebook isn’t making people angrier. Some people are just jerks.” But a) this is one study and I am not convinced and b) Facebook still totally knows that it made a megaphone for jerks and in my humble opinion, a megaphone for jerks is not a good product, especially on a global scale, Meta or not. (Metaphone would be a cool name for some gadget btw. Or maybe not.)
Meta Experience The Physical World Future
These Supercuts were done by Sam Lavigne using his automatic Supercut-Generator Videogrep, which lets you search video files for speech and automatically create a supercut of each utterance of a phrase.
I fused the clips into one file for a better meta experience of the future physical world according to Mark Zuckerberg, or something. It's all pretty meta.

A DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) bought Wu Tangs Single-Copy-Album that was snatched by the pharma bro back in the day and sold by the US Department of Justice recently. They paid 4 Million bucks in lame monkey illustrations (no they didn’t) and I still have no idea what’s the difference between a DAO and any other buying organization that owns assets as a collective, but hey, what do I know.
Adobe builds authentication into meta data of digital media to fight misinformation and get into the NFT-market: “Adobe is launching a system built into Photoshop that can, among other things, help prove that the person selling an NFT is the person who made it. It’s called Content Credentials, and NFT sellers will be able to link the Adobe ID with their crypto wallet, allowing compatible NFT marketplaces to show a sort of verified certificate proving the art’s source is authentic.” More on Adobes Content Attribution features on its blog, here’s a good Bloomberg-piece: Adobe Looks to Collaboration, the Metaverse and NFTs For Growth.
An A.I. Experiment Fooled Thousands of Readers: “On the 20th of July, Porr submitted the post to the popular site Hacker News. Two weeks — and a few other similar articles — afterward, he had already amassed an impressive 26 thousand visitors to his fresh GPT-3 blog.”
The Future of Images Is ‘Trust Nothing’: “Adobe’s lab is cooking up some wild, AI-powered image-manipulation technology called Project Strike a Pose”.
Facebook Understands the Metaverse All Too Well: “It is not a world in a headset but a fantasy of power.”
