Hi, thanks for your article.

I don't quite understand this part: "Image Synthesizers like Midjourney, Dall-E and Stable Diffusion not only automatize the process of creation of symbols "...

Does AI in its current state understands symbols?

No, they don't understand symbols and there is a heated and very interesting debate going on in the field, read for instance: Yann LeCun https://www.noemamag.com/ai-and-the-limits-of-language/ and Gary Marcus https://www.noemamag.com/deep-learning-alone-isnt-getting-us-to-human-like-ai/.

"Symbol" is a very broad term and I didn't mean neurological processes, I should be more precise in my language, thanks for pointing that out. However, a machine can produce symbols without understanding them. It doesn't matter much if Dall-E knows the meaning of a stop-sign, it only matters that me and you know it. These are distinct questions.

A Machine can produce very fine shoes in which i can walk many miles, and it has no clue what a shoe is or what it is made for. As long as I, the wearer of the shoe, can protect my feet with them, it's still a shoe. Same for symbols. :)
